Simulation and Microstructure Prediction of Resistance Spot Welding of Stainless Steel to Carbon Steel

Joining of stainless steel to carbon is widely used in various industries. Resistance spot welding (RSW) a suitable process for joining sheets. Due the complexity and importance optimizing parameters, numerical simulation this was considered. In research, electrical-thermal-mechanical RSW 304 St37 performed using finite element method (FEM). Then, simulated weld nugget size compared with experimental results optical microscopy (OM). addition, diffusion metallic elements steels molten region Fick’s equation energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). It shown that Cr Ni through nugget, would make new structure. Microstructure prediction heat affected zone (HAZ) Koistinen–Marburger Leblond–Devaux equations predict percentage martensite ferrite-perlite phases during heating cooling stages specimens from room temperature peak down under Mf temperature. The were validated by scanning electron (SEM) images shear tensile micro-hardness test results. showed increasing input 1250 A 0.5 s 3750 1.5 s, increases martensite, 40% 80%, HAZ widens region.
